Pharmaceutical Grade

Does Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Really Exist?

Although you may see a product advertised as pharmaceutical grade fish oil and you may see it referred to as such in some literature, there is no such thing in the US.  There are some medicinal standards in Europe and Norway that have to do with maximum contaminant levels and peroxide value, which has to do with lack of freshness.  But, in the US, it is up to the manufacturer to provide a safe and effective product.

Manufacturers are not required to apply for FDA approval before they market a product.  The health claims made about products are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission.  They must not be “misleading”.

A manufacturer should be able to back up the claims that they make.  But, they are not required to present the evidence to the FDA for their approval.  What does the Administration suggest that consumers should do?  They advise them to consult the supplement manufacturer.

In my opinion, if a US manufacturer advertises their product as pharmaceutical fish oil, they are not to be trusted.  Anything that they have to say would be questionable.

The better manufacturers do everything within their power to educate the consumer, including providing the standards set by the European Pharmacopoeia and the Norwegian Medical Standard, as well as those set by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and the IFOS, which brings up other questions.  Who is the CRN?  What is the IFOS?

The CRN and the IFOS are trade organizations that supplement manufacturers may join; being a member means that the company adheres to their standards.  The membership requirements vary between the two organizations.  It is difficult for a non-manufacturer to find information.

But, if there were pharmaceutical grade fish oil in the US, it might not meet the standards set by either the CRN or the IFOS.  The medicinal standards set in Europe are more lenient.  So, it stands to reason that any standards set in the US would be more lenient, too.

There are some states, such as California, that have standards for manufacturers located within their jurisdiction.  But, the big problem with all of these standards and regulations is that they are not enforceable.

In the US, a supplement cannot be removed from the market, until it is proven unsafe, by doctor reports and patient complaints.  If one brand is removed, others, of the same type, may still be available.

So, those are the facts about pharmaceutical fish oil.  Your best bet is to look for a manufacturer that has each batch of oils tested by an independent laboratory and posts the results of those tests on their website.  You will find a few companies do that.

Make no mistake about it.  To get the best value for your money, look for a brand that provides a minimum of 280mg of DHA per capsule.  That is a specific omega-3 that research indicates provides most of the benefits.  There may be pharmaceutical grade fish oil in the US, at some point in the future, but with a little research, you can find a high quality product, today.

Four Bad Things About resveratrol That You Should Know

Welcome to the most recent, but certainly not the last, fountain of youth. Resveratrol.

Unless you make it a practice to live under a rock, avoid the news, Oprah Winfrey, Dr Oz, 60 Minutes or any specials with Barbra Walters, you have heard, by now, about resveratrol.

Eighteen years ago 60 minutes took their first look at something called the French paradox, which was the appearance that the French had lower instances of heart disease than Americans, despite a lifestyle involving a high fat diet and large amounts of red wine consumption.

Today, researchers have identified a specific substance in the red wine, a fungus to be precise, that they believe, when taken in very high concentrations, may extend life an extra ten to twenty years. That fungus is known by Sirtris as SRT501, and to the rest of us as resveratrol.

Sirtris is the company that 60 Minutes interviewed and depending on your beliefs about huge multi billion dollar companies looking out for the best interests of the consumer, sold themselves to Glaxosmithkline for about 720 million dollars.

This brings me to the number four (Were counting down) bad thing about resveratrol that you should know: The company that owns the research rights and development of resveratrol is the second largest Pharmaceutical company on the planet. Earning over seven billion dollars in revenue last year and established in over 70 countries, this is what is commonly referred to as a “Monopoly”. Just something to consider when the price to extend your life could arguably become “controlled”.

Tying in closely to number four is the number three bad thing about resveratrol that you should know: Neither Sirtris, nor glaxosmithkline have their name on any resveratrol product on the market. That’s right. If 60 minutes went strait to the source to bring us the facts about this new wonder pill, why can’t we find a bottle anywhere with their name on it being sold? Better yet, Who is making the stuff on the market currently and how good is it?

That brings us to the number two bad thing about resveratrol that you should know: Resveratrol is an herbal supplement that is NOT regulated by the food and drug administration. That’s right. With all the coverage of how great resveratrol is, anyone with Japanese knotweed or a grape vine in their back yard can dry out and grind up product thought to have the active fungus and cram it into a capsule and sell it to you for whatever price they wish to charge with absolutely zero accountability as to it’s effectiveness.

That brings us to the NUMBER ONE bad thing you should know about resveratrol.

The number one thing you should know about resveratrol is that absolutely no studies exist supporting resveratrol extending the life of humans. That is a fact.

Research Sirtris, research the sirtuin gene, research Christopher Westphal  or David Sinclair, a biochemist at Harvard studying the genetic components of aging. Even research centenarian populations in Japan and around the world and the results are always the same. Resveratrol has been proven to extend the life span in yeast perhaps, but not humans. No way, no how, forget it. No proof whatsoever.

In conclusion, should you buy resveratrol for yourself? That’s entirely up to you. The most important thing being emphasized here is just make sure you know the facts and you go in with your eyes open before shelling out hard earned cash under false presumptions.

You Complete Guide to resveratrol Benefits

Life is busy for most people. We take shortcuts with eating, nutrition, sleep, and just generally don’t have time to slow down. A positive solution to help us keep up with life's demands is a well balanced supplement to help your body stay healthy. Using a supplement such as Resveratrol benefits your general health, as well as providing help and support for specific ailments.

Specific Resveratrol Benefits

The most important benefit of Resveratrol is its high potency as a super antioxidant. Known to have 50 times more antioxidant power than lemons and most other fruits, Resveratrol helps fight and combat cellular damage within our bodies.

Current Research on Resveratrol

Resveratrol was originally discovered in the 1940s, but more recently has been recognized as being beneficial to human health. Current research is fast discovering the benefits of Resveratrol for assisting with disease and longevity for humans. Scientists and doctors are further investigating and researching their initial discoveries of Resveratrol benefits, such as:

- Weight Loss: Resveratrol helps the body reduce the number of fat cells and increase muscle mass. By also acting as an appetite suppressant, Resveratrol offers a natural option for many people who need a weight loss boost.

-  Protection from Cellular Damage: Not only does Resveratrol assist the body in repairing cellular damage, continued use can also prevent further damage and protect the body from damage and disease. This also applies to illnesses such as cancer, which is caused by cellular mutation. Resveratrol works to fight against the spread and existence of mutated or sick cells within the body.

- Protection for the Heart and Cardio System: Studies have shown that Resveratrol assists with reducing the oxidation of LDL or “the bad†cholesterol within the body. It is also shown to lower the blood levels of LDL. This is largely beneficial in fighting heart disease and artery blockages.

True Benefits of resveratrol

Be Proactive In Your Health With Resveratrol

There are INNUMERABLE benefits of Resveratrol. Resveratrol helps to lower cholesterol, prevent and treat cancer, prevent and control diabetes and Alzheimers, promote cardiovascular and normal cell growth, and discourage tumor growth. Resveratrol is also 10-20 times more potent than vitamin E in protecting against the development of cardiovascular disease. Resveratrol also promotes anti-aging.

500 milligrams a day is the minimum amount of resveratrol needed to protect against cancer. One would have to drink at least three bottles of red wine a day to experience this effects (unless you've been drinking red wine all your life like the French). The true benefits of resveratrol are numerous and scientifically documented in the scientific community.

Watch This Short Video About Resveratrol, Conducted With One Of The Leading Scientists On This Active Nutrient:

The true benefits of Resveratrol are maximized when the natural antioxidant is in isotonic form. Isotonic Resveratrol is also the safest to intake the antioxidant. An isotonic solution has the same osmotic pressure as the tissues of the body, allowing for a quick distribution of nutrients into cells without the work of the stomach and stomach acids. There is no way of overdosing on isotonic supplements --- any extra nutrients are urinated out of the body. Each cap of Isotonic Resveratrol is equal to the extracts in THREE BOTTLES of red wine. Isotonic Resveratrol also uses the Isotonics system of delivering Resveratrol, which allows for a 90 % absorption rate into the small intestines.

How To Buy Certified resveratrol

How to buy  Certified Resveratrol

Certified Resv is another new supplement on the market claiming to make the most of the properties of resveratrol, a nutrient found to help with the deterrence of heart disease, increase energy, and even delay the aging process.  150mg of resveratrol is packed in each tablet of Certified Resv, and you take it by letting it melt in the mouth.  According to the producers of the supplement, this is the best way yet to take the nutrient.  Can something so simple really be an effective way to hold back the aging process?  Or is it just the latest in a long line of health fads designed to sell the maximum number to an increasingly needy market?

Resveratrol first made headlines as a result of an attempt to answer the so-called French Paradox: the question of why the French, with their fat-rich food, still suffered much less heart problems than virtually the rest of the world.  The evidence pointed to their large consumption of wine as the cause of this near-immunity, and later on the component in the wine that was mostly responsible for this property was found to be resveratrol.  The list of benefits coming from the consumption in large quantities of the component also pointed to the mitigation of diabetes and liver related disease, counteracting the bad effects of a high-calorie diet, and even the prevention of breast cancer.

Easy to produce and harvest because its source is mainly grape skins, resveratrol is now quickly becoming king of the nutritional supplement industry.  The latest development in this arena is Certified Resv, and is promising to be the most practical way yet for getting access to these benefits.  The tablets are grape-flavored and carry the equivalent of 150 glasses of wine in its resveratrol content, but without the sugar or alcohol.

Only One Type of resveratrol Is Biologically Active! See Which resveratrol supplements Have the Right Stuff. Resveratrol Reviews

If you haven't heard of resveratrol yet, you probably will.  A natural component of several plants and most notably in the skin and seeds of grapes, resveratrol is thought to contribute to human health in multiple ways and is quickly gaining public attention.  It's important to remember though that almost all resveratrol studies to date have been performed on animals or in-vitro (test tube) with human cells.  Nevertheless many vendors are claiming extraordinary benefits by taking resveratrol.  I recently visited one of the many resveratrol review websites offering a "free trial" and found the following claims at the top of the page.

* Slows down the aging process

* Increases healthy lifespan

* Supports cardiovascular health

* Lose unwanted weight

* Supports strong immune system

To be sure, no in-vivo study on people has confirmed any of these claims.  Studies on yeast cells and fruit flies have shown an increase in longevity.  A study using rats has shown that resveratrol can prevent accumulation of weight from excessive eating and many other studies have inferred various benefits to cardiovascular health, blood sugar and athletic performance to name a few.  Again, only a very few studies have been completed on people.  Some are ongoing now.

Nevertheless, many are choosing to supplement with resveratrol.  After doing plenty of research on my own, including reading through many study abstracts on pubmed.gov, I believe the benefits outweigh the risks.  I've picked up a few tips for selecting supplements which I have found helpful.  They are listed below.

- Avoid websites that make outrageous claims like "reverses aging", "cures cancer" or "Lose Weight fast".  While resveratrol holds much promise, these claims are not true.  Do your own homework to find out the truth about resveratrol.

- Avoid websites that offer "free trials" of their products without disclosing pricing.  After the trial is over, purchasing from these vendors is typically much more than buying resveratrol from a reputable source. I find many of these "free trial" and resveratrorl review sites are making claims like the ones above.

- Avoid brands that don't disclose ingredients.  All resveratrol is not created equal. "Trans-resveratrol" is the only biologically active form.  Unless the label stipulates the amount of "trans-resveratrol", don't buy it!  Many of the sites offering free trials do not disclose the ingredients of their products.

- Avoid mega-doses. The FDA has yet to issue any guidance on resveratrol so we don't know how much is enough.  Some studies have shown that as little as 20mg of "trans-resveratrol" may be enough to see benefits.  A generally accepted effective dose appears to be in in 200mg range.  Over 500mg is generally considered a mega-dose.  Side effects of mega-doses include joint pain and nervousness.  Overall though, resveratrol appears relatively safe.

- Resveratrol with other compounds may be more effective that resveratrol alone.  Wine, which is loaded with an array of beneficial plant chemicals called polyphenols is a good example of how less resveratrol can be very effective.  A spectrum of polyphenols and vitamins such as Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Quercitin, IP6, Ferulic Acid can maximize resveratrol's effects.  Choose a vendor that offers a spectrum of nutrients in addition to resveratrol

- Talk to your doctor before taking resveratrol.  Again, while resveratrol appears safe, there have been reports of side effects.

resveratrol and Diabetes, Can Nutritional Supplements Help?

Research concerning resveratrol and diabetes is still ongoing. The single ingredient supplements that are on the market will not be beneficial for diabetics. There are some specialty supplements on the market that have proven benefits for the disease, as well as multi-nutritional supplements that contain a reasonable resveratrol-dosage. Here's a look at what may be available in the future and what is available, today.

To have a significant effect on lowering blood sugar, very high dosages were needed. Because risks are associated with dosages this high, research is continuing. In the US, it is illegal to recommend a Dietary Supplement for the treatment of a disease. If something is used to treat a disease, it is considered a drug.

In order to be a legal drug, there must be safety studies, which usually last for a year or more. Then studies concerning effectiveness may be conducted. Once those studies are completed, the paperwork is submitted to the FDA and the FDA may approve the drug.

So, it will be several years before the resveratrol and diabetes trials are completed, but eventually, there may be a new drug that works better than the ones that are currently on the market. Today, you should follow your doctor's instructions and make every effort to improve your daily nutritional intake.

If you like, you may consider a specialty supplement designed to protect the organs and nerves of the body from the damage that high blood sugar levels can cause over the years. Some of the better supplements include Banaba, bitter melon, black cumin, Green Tea and Gymnema Sylvestre. These can lower blood sugar levels. So, it is important to monitor your blood sugar, if you begin taking them. Low blood sugar levels are dangerous, too.

When it comes to resveratrol and diabetes, a multi-nutritional supplement that contains moderate amounts (20-50mg) is fine. Anything over 100mg can have a laxative effect, possible causing diarrhea. Many diabetics are prone to become dehydrated and diarrhea will, of course, increase that risk.

A 20-50mg dose may provide many protective health benefits, particularly if it is combined with other effective antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories, like turmeric, green tea, glutathione and carnosine. Oxidative stress and chronic long-term inflammation are two of the causes of cellular aging. They both play roles in the development of cancer and heart disease.

Originally, the research concerning resveratrol and diabetes was done using laboratory animals and cell cultures. One of the many effects that researchers saw was an extension of lifespan in some short lived species. So, you will often see this ingredient in an anti-aging supplement.

If you believe the Methuselah Foundation, humans should live well over 100 years, without developing a chronic or life threatening disease. We are seeing more and more people achieving that age, with minor, if any health problems.

Many of us believe that the key to living a long healthy life is good nutrition. Optimal nutritional intake insures that all of the cells of your body can function, as they should. Now, that you know a little more about resveratrol and diabetes, you might want to learn more about some of the other botanicals and nutrients mentioned in this article.

Trans resveratrol - resveratrol benefits

Resveratrol (Trans resveratrol) is a molecule that produced in different type of plants, such as berries, black berries and grapes. Scientists found a way to isolate this molecule and harness its health benefits for human use.

The most common fruit we can find Trans resveratrol, is in the skin of a grape that uses to make red wine. Studies shows that resveratrol (trans resveratrol) help to protect the body immune system , lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, boost energy, helps your skin look younger and helps to Burn Fat.

The French people consume a lot of red wine that made of the grapes that contains high levels of resveratrol, practically every meal they have is accompanied with at least one glass of red wine. Research has speculated that the reason  for the French people to stay slim, and have less cardio vascular disease and low levels of obesity all over the country, is the resveratrol that is found in the red wine that they drink every day.

Trans resveratrol is actually an active form of the compound resveratrol. When it exposes to sunlight and air its beneficial qualities will be reduced. Scientists have found a way to retain its beneficial qualities and make them available to consumers who do not desire to drink red wine.

Even though wine is good for your health thanks to the amounts of resveratrol in it, some people not drink wine since it contains unwanted amounts of calories and alcohol that can make you dizzy. Dieters usually try to avoid alcohol consumption but some of them just choose not to consume alcohol at all. Tanks to today’s technology, we can isolate Trans resveratrol while keeping its health benefits, and process it into resveratrol capsules. Consumers can enjoy the health benefits without the consequences of alcohol consumption.

Increasing the energy at the cellular level is crucial since it increases life span and able to grant better athletic performances due to longer endurance. Energy is a process that starts deep inside of the heart of the cell and can be disrupted by inefficient conversion of other nutrients. resveratrol (Trans resveratrol) is important giving the body a final tune up, so it can uses the energy more efficiently, by increasing energy levels at the cellular level.

The health benefits of resveratrol have been harnessed by researches to benefit people that do not drink red wine. It was proven that resveratrol Improve energy within the cells, increases life span, decrease cholesterol levels in the body, protect the heart and more.

It was reported that in some experiments on lab rats, resveratrol was found to be effective when it comes to prevent cancer. It integrates with multiple molecular targets, and has positive effects on the cells of breast, skin, colon, prostate, pancreatic cancer and leukemia.

The most unexpected result of resveratrol (Trans resveratrol) was weight loss. Many consumers reported that after using resveratrol capsules they experienced a significant loss of fat over the first few months. Unlike many other diet pills that have negative effects on the hearth because they are artificial stimulants, resveratrol is all organic, natural supplements.
